Mürren-Schilthorn Announces Early Ski Weekends from 31 October

Mürren-Schilthorn has announced a limited start to alpine skiing from 31 October 2026, with the Riggli chairlift and its associated Engetal piste scheduled to open. The first three weekends are planned for Saturday and Sunday skiing, before continuous winter operations begin on 21 November.

For anyone considering an early trip to Mürren and the Schilthorn ski area, the useful question is which part of the mountain will serve their plans. An opening date alone does not confirm that a suitable first-time lesson, children’s course or full week of skiing is available.

The announced early-season timetable

The operator set out the following plan in its 28 October announcement:

Period Published plan What to check
From 31 October, first three weekends Riggli chairlift and associated Engetal piste; alpine skiing on Saturdays and Sundays The actual operating lifts and piste status for your day
Weekdays during this early period Pända Snowpark also advertised for public use Park access and suitability for your experience
From 21 November Continuous winter operations planned Which runs and teaching areas are operating

Reduced preseason day tickets are advertised, with AlpsPass and Jungfrau Ski Region season passes accepted. Check the current ski-ticket conditions before buying; the announcement does not give an exact reduced fare.

A limited opening needs a specific lesson plan

The operator’s wider ski-area description distinguishes gentler terrain around Maulerhubel and Winteregg from the often steeper upper Birg-Schilthorn area. That full winter picture should not be read as a list of terrain available on the opening weekends.

Before paying for a lesson, ask the school to name the teaching area it expects to use on your exact date. For a complete beginner, ask where you will practise stopping and turning and how you will reach that area. For a returning skier, explain what you can currently ski comfortably rather than relying only on a broad level label.

The Swiss Ski School Mürren-Schilthorn profile is a starting point for researching local tuition. The school’s published offering includes group ski and snowboard courses and private lessons, but that does not establish opening-weekend availability. Confirm the date, discipline, age requirements, language and meeting point with the provider.

When contacting a school through Find a Ski School, include those details in your lesson request, together with your group size and any equipment needs. The available contact and booking options vary by provider.

Check Allmendhubel access before choosing a meeting point

The operator’s maintenance timetable lists the Mürren–Allmendhubel service as closed until 11 December 2026. This is a separate access issue from the announced Riggli opening, and it matters if you are working from an older lesson confirmation or a usual winter meeting-point description.

Ask the school whether your proposed meeting point is accessible and whether an alternative location applies. Confirm where you need to be before collecting hire equipment, then allow enough time for the whole journey. Our lift-pass guide for lessons explains the questions to ask about access; the provider should confirm the precise ticket your course requires.

Plan the journey as well as the skiing

For public transport, the operator’s arrival guidance describes travel via Interlaken Ost and Lauterbrunnen, followed by a postbus to the Stechelberg cableway valley station. Check the current connections and onward lift timetable against your lesson start, rather than assuming that reaching the valley means you have reached the meeting point.

Before travelling, consult the operator’s current operating information. The Mürren resort profile also provides weather context; check the displayed update date and the forecast for your visit. If your preferred course cannot run in the available area, ask about another date before committing to a trip.
