What This Qualification Covers
- The standard covers group and private lessons for children through to older adults, from first activities on snow through basic parallel technique. Candidates must be able to explain and demonstrate this progression on easy and medium terrain, described in the standard as blue and red slopes.
- The standard describes teaching inside an official snowsport school under the supervision of a fully qualified instructor holding the ISIA Stamp or Card, or under the arrangements permitted by local or national regulation. It expressly excludes independent practice as a snowsport instructor.
- Assessed competence includes teaching methods, on-piste hazard awareness, FIS rules, immediate accident response, first aid, and care for the mountain environment. The introductory standard does not establish an expert teaching range or off-piste leadership competence.
- Blue Level is a minimum-standard category within national training, rather than a standalone worldwide teaching licence. Check the actual issuing national credential, assessed discipline, supervision arrangements, and local professional requirements; ISIA standards do not automatically secure recognition by state authorities or immigration permission.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- The ISIA standard describes candidates who have started their country's national snowsport instructor training and achieved the Blue Level competencies. The actual national qualification and issuing association need to be identified before attaching this standard to an individual instructor.
- The 2025 standards do not specify a separate Blue Level minimum training-hour total. Do not apply the Stamp's 320-hour or Card's 450-hour training minimum to this introductory stage.
- The Stamp and Card are distinct professional credentials for candidates who have completed qualifying national training and meet the additional requirements. Achieving Blue Level does not establish either credential or permission to work independently.
