What This Qualification Covers

  • The course prepares instructors to teach first-time cross-country skiers using classic and skate progressions, with communication, skier analysis, correction and demonstrations.
  • The intermediate classic and skate standard required of candidates is separate from the stated first-time teaching focus. Both forms of technique are assessed in teaching presentations.

FASS country rules

These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.

No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.

Training and Progression

  • The route comprises one-day Classic and Skate workshops and a three-day exam. Exam entry requires associate or full membership, age 16, conversational English, intermediate classic and skate skiing, both workshops or accepted experience, and pre-learning.
  • NZSIA may credit workshop time for holders or candidates of the named NZQA Te Mahi Ako beginner cross-country award, but its three-day exam remains required. Any credit or international designation must be confirmed separately.
