Cross-country skiing · Swiss Snowsports / Swiss Snowsports Association
What This Qualification Covers
- The pathway builds on Level 3 cross-country ski teaching from beginners through experts. Level 4 broadens professional planning, communication, responsibility and the development of tourism offers; it is not a new numbered learner category.
- Swiss Snowsports calls the completed outcome Level 4 Instructor with Federal Diploma of Higher Education. Course participation, an elective or an admission decision alone is not evidence of passing the federal examination or holding its protected title.
- An elective can specialise in a second discipline, racing, freestyle, children, disabled snowsport or backcountry. Completing Level 4 does not mean every elective or every other discipline has been assessed.
- For federal examinations completed from 2026, Swiss Snowsports' transition guidance identifies Backcountry Specialist in addition to the federal certificate for the risk-authorisation route. A federal certificate can still be completed without that elective; obtaining the actual authorisation remains a separate procedure.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- The final stage includes Tourism Marketing, Nature and Environment, at least one elective and Practice 2, in addition to the preceding compulsory modules and practice. Check the full training record and federal examination result.
- The current federal examination combines a submitted professional portfolio and presentation/interview with communication role-play, reflection and applied professional knowledge. The protected federal title follows successful completion, rather than merely finishing the preparation modules.
- The separate federal-certificate record in FASS identifies the completed professional credential. Record its actual discipline and evidence without assuming that two catalogue labels represent two independent examinations.
Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.

The official course model, level pages, 2025 transition guidance and implementing provisions Edition 1.1, 2026/27 were read. The provisions give separate technical assessments for ski, snowboard, Nordic and Telemark. This guide describes the current pathway; historical certificates require their own transition assessment. Course training and a cantonal risk-activities authorisation remain separate.
