The Champoluc village is based long a one main road through the village. Champoluc has an authentic village feel combined with a classic ski resort ambiance; the other Monterosa resorts feel more like small villages with access to skiing.
Champoluc is the largest base in the three valleys with more hotels than other resorts in the area but it still has under 1,000 beds in the whole resort. At the weekends and Italian holidays it can get very busy as many people drive up from Milan and Turin. Champoluc is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a classic ski resort ambiance. It has all the amenities you would expect and is a great place to relax after a day on the slopes but it does miss somethings compared to the larger resorts, however this is not a bad point due to the hidden gem aspect of Champoluc. It is definitely worth stopping in at Bruno’s bar on the way down to the village as you pass under the rope bridge on the final slope (Del Bosco). The owner is wonderful and the terrace is a great place to enjoy a spritz in the sun! The town itself has plenty to offer with various other bars and restaurants. A lovely restaurant to visit in the evening is Il Balivo. Up on the mountain whilst you are skiing you can stop in at La Mandria and try out one of their daily specials. If you are looking for something more “fancy” then the Soussun is definitely worth checking out but make sure to call ahead and reserve otherwise you will likely be without a table and have to walk back up the long track to the piste. For the best pizza in the entire Monterosa Ski Domain (and one of the best pizzas I have tried in my life!) visit Restaurant Bettaforca 2727. The downstairs is basic but the upstairs is more of an alpine restaurant to enjoy a lovely meal.
