Val d’Isère Wins Overall Gold in 2026 Snomad Awards

Val d’Isère has won worldwide Best Overall Ski Resort in the 2026 Snomad Ski Resort Awards, ahead of Italy’s Livigno and Val Gardena. The results, reported on 3 November 2026 and checked by Find a Ski School on 4 November, offer a timely starting point for winter holiday research. For learners and families, the separate family and ski-school categories are worth reading alongside the headline winner.

Research checked: 4 November 2026. These are awards based on visitors’ ratings from the 2025/26 season, rather than a report on today’s snow or this winter’s lesson availability.

What the results show

The organiser’s official results give Val d’Isère an overall score of 4.62 out of five, followed by Livigno on 4.56 and Val Gardena on 4.53. Snomad says the awards draw on 153,854 resort ratings submitted during the 2025/26 season, across 20 categories.

Different categories produce different winners. These four worldwide gold awards are particularly relevant when putting together a lesson holiday:

Category Gold winner Country
Best Overall Val d’Isère France
Families Les Carroz France
Ski Schools Pamporovo Bulgaria
Beginners Mayrhofen Austria

How much weight should an award carry?

PlanetSKI’s report, published on 3 November, corroborates the overall podium and explains that rankings consider average ratings, a minimum qualifying threshold and, to a lesser extent, the number of ratings. It notes that the exact calculation is not published.

Our practical reading is to use the results to create a shortlist, then investigate the parts of a holiday that matter to your group. An overall resort award answers a broader question than whether a particular course suits a nervous adult, a young child or someone returning after years away.

Likewise, the ski-school category is a resort-level result. It does not certify every provider in that destination, identify the instructor who will teach you or confirm a place on your chosen dates.

Turn a shortlist into a workable lesson plan

If the overall winner interests you, start with ski schools in Val d’Isère. Families exploring the category winner can compare listed options in Les Carroz, while the school award gives another reason to research Pamporovo.

For each destination, check the same details before comparing quotes:

  • Learner fit: accepted ages, ability bands, teaching language and the course’s intended audience.
  • Daily arrangements: exact meeting and collection points, lesson times and any arrangements for children between sessions.
  • Total cost: whether the quote includes equipment, lift access or meals, and which items are separate.
  • Changes: how the provider communicates altered arrangements and what its published terms say about cancellations.

A useful comparison starts with the people travelling. A group with two first-time children and an experienced adult needs different information from four adults taking the same course. Give each learner’s experience accurately, rather than assuming everyone should join one class.

Keep the award season separate from the travel dates

Val d’Isère’s official winter planning page currently lists 28 November 2026 to 2 May 2027 for the 2026/27 season. Those advertised dates are separate from the award, which reflects the preceding winter. They do not confirm that a particular teaching area or course will operate throughout that period.

Check current operating notices before travelling. The linked Find a Ski School resort pages also provide available forecasts and snow information; coverage and freshness vary, so read the displayed update dates. For first-trip preparation, our first-lesson guide explains the wider planning.

When contacting a school through Find a Ski School, include your dates, learner ages, ability and language needs in the lesson request. Contact and booking options vary by provider. You can browse listed ski and snowboard lessons to take the next step.
