The FIS Rules (International Ski Federation)
- Respect - Do not endanger others
- Control - Adapt speed and manner of skiing to your ability
- Choice of route - The skier in front has priority
- Overtaking - Leave enough space when passing
- Entering and starting - Look up and down before entering a run
- Stopping - Avoid stopping in narrow or blind spots
- Climbing - Keep to the side of the piste
- Signs - Respect all signs and markings
- Assistance - Help in case of accidents
- Identification - Exchange details after an accident
Piste Markings
- Green - Very easy, gentle slopes (not used in all countries)
- Blue - Easy, suitable for beginners
- Red - Intermediate, steeper sections
- Black - Advanced, steep and challenging
- Yellow/Orange - Ski routes (ungroomed, unmarked)
General Etiquette
- Queue fairly at lifts
- Don't stop in the middle of a run
- Look before you merge onto a piste
- Keep music volume low if wearing headphones
- Pick up dropped items (poles, gloves) when safe to do so
- Report accidents to ski patrol
