Cross-country skiing · French state ski instructor diplomas — ENSM (ENSA / CNSNMM)
What This Qualification Covers
- ENSM describes independent instruction and coaching for all learner levels in Nordic skiing. Derived activities include biathlon, snowshoeing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and Nordic skier cross, within the applicable activity and equipment conditions.
- The published scope concerns middle-mountain, rolling terrain without major terrain obstacles: marked cross-country tracks and Nordic touring or raids off the tracks. Cross-country skiing can also take place at altitude on prepared, marked and groomed tracks on suitable rolling terrain.
- The 2023 order distinguishes one-day Nordic outings, multi-day Nordic touring with overnight accommodation in a staffed refuge or other accommodation, and Nordic raids. These specific descriptions must not be converted into an unrestricted Alpine, glacier or mountaineering entitlement.
- This entry records the completed Nordic state diploma. Alpine qualifications, an ESF school-network label, a current professional declaration/card and the trainee status are separate matters to check.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- The route starts with a technical entry test covering timed skating and classic technique, followed by two training cycles through CNSNMM. The programme combines technical/pedagogical units, assessed teaching placements and technical certification.
- The later training includes teaching, coaching and biathlon, and the planning and delivery of Nordic touring and raids. Passing the entry test or an individual unit does not establish the full diploma.
- ENSM states that the diploma requires refresher training every six years. Check the instructor's current professional standing and completed refresher evidence separately from the original award.
Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
