IASI Adaptive Ski Level 1

An introductory adaptive ski instructor award for a specifically assessed equipment or learner-needs module, taught on artificial slopes or in indoor snow domes. Completion of one module does not qualify the holder across every adaptive discipline.

What This Qualification Covers

  • IASI limits Level 1 to the specific adaptive discipline delivered and assessed, in the closed environment of an artificial slope or indoor snow dome. The workbook explicitly excludes teaching in the open mountain environment.
  • The linked workbook groups the award into bi-ski, mono-ski, three-track/four-track, and hidden-disability disciplines. The current pathway also discusses visual impairment. Check the instructor's actual assessed module rather than assuming that any Level 1 record includes all equipment or learner needs.
  • Assessment covers adapting skier-development activities, selecting and handling suitable equipment, recognising disability-related considerations, communicating with learners, and planning safe lessons. The instructor's equipment-control tasks on a blue piste or equivalent are assessment criteria, not an extension of the award into open-mountain teaching.

FASS country rules

These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.

No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.

Training and Progression

  • The January 2019 workbook describes entry through an Alpine Level 1 award or pre-selection, followed by adaptive training and assessment, supervised logged experience, and first aid with an outdoor element. Confirm the current entry and completion requirements directly with IASI before enrolling.
  • The workbook describes logged experience as shadowing or hands-on equipment work supervised by a qualified adaptive instructor. Training attendance or experience with equipment is distinct from passing the specific module and receiving the award.
  • IASI Adaptive Level 2 is a separate progression covering all four workbook disciplines and a different teaching environment. Keep the completed award, valid first aid, and IASI's current membership and continuing-development requirements separate when checking an instructor's status.

Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
