What This Qualification Covers

  • The April 2020 workbook permits instructing and leading skiers on marked pistes within developed areas where a ski patrol operates. It requires employment by a recognised ski school and explicitly excludes working privately.
  • All four workbook disciplines are assessed: bi-ski, mono-ski, three-track/four-track, and hidden disabilities. Assessment includes adapting skier-development activities and equipment choices to the skier's needs, understanding relevant disability and safety considerations, and managing learners in a mountain environment.
  • Technical assessment includes controlling speed and line with appropriate equipment on blue or red pistes, using terrain variations, and stopping safely. These are assessed tasks; the award does not establish off-piste guiding authority, unrestricted terrain scope, or independent teaching permission.

FASS country rules

These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.

No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.

Training and Progression

  • The linked workbook describes entry with the Adaptive Level 1 bi-ski module plus one additional Level 1 adaptive module, followed by Level 2 training, logged experience, and a separate assessment course. Confirm the current prerequisites, course format, and logged-hour requirements with IASI before booking.
  • IASI distinguishes practice within the Level 1 remit, shadowing, and supervised hands-on adaptive experience from completion of the Level 2 assessment across all four disciplines. An individual Level 1 module or training-course record is not the complete Level 2 award.
  • The workbook requires first aid with an outdoor element and ongoing professional development. Check the actual award, current first aid and membership status, school employment, and any destination-specific conditions for the proposed lesson.

Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
