Alpine skiing · Irish Association of Snowsport Instructors
What This Qualification Covers
- IASI describes freestyle coaching as a complementary certification for instructors teaching in terrain parks. The named pathway award is Freestyle Ski Coach Level 1; a shared ski-and-snowboard teaching heading in the criteria does not establish that the holder also has a snowboard instructor qualification.
- The linked foundation ski criteria assess controlled parallel and switch skiing, basic rail and box movements, balanced take-offs and landings, introductory grabs, and small-jump rotations. These describe the candidate's demonstrated skills rather than unlimited authority to teach any park feature or trick.
- Teaching assessment focuses on a safe, enjoyable lesson using logical freestyle progressions, sound movement understanding, and communication that keeps learners involved. Check the instructor's underlying qualification, completed coaching module, venue conditions, and relevant teaching authorisation for the intended session.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- IASI identifies Level 1 as the starting step in its freestyle coaching pathway and describes the module as complementing existing instructor qualifications. Confirm current entry standards, assessment, and award-completion requirements directly with IASI.
- The freestyle module is one element needed by ski instructors working towards IASI Alpine Level 3. Passing it alone does not establish completion of that modular instructor award, an issued ISIA Stamp, or a later ISIA Card.
- Freestyle Ski Coach Level 2 is a separate second stage with additional technical and coaching assessments. The older linked criteria should be checked against IASI's current specification before planning training.
Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
