How Instructors Assess Student Levels

A guide for instructors on how to use the level assessment system to track and sign off student progress.

How Instructors Assess Student Levels

The Level Assessment tool in your instructor dashboard allows you to track each student's progress through the ski and snowboarding level system.

Accessing the Level Assessment

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Click the Level Assessment tab in the sidebar
  3. You will see a list of students who have booked lessons with your school or who you have previously assessed

Assessing a Student

Step 1: Select the Student

Choose the student you want to assess from the list. You can search by name or email to find them quickly.

Step 2: Choose the Sport and Level

Select whether you are assessing skiing or snowboarding, then pick the appropriate level. If you are unsure which level the student is at, start with the level that matches their current ability.

Step 3: Tick Off Manoeuvres

Each level has a checklist of manoeuvres. During or after a lesson, tick off the manoeuvres the student has successfully demonstrated. You can:

  • Click a manoeuvre to toggle it between completed and not completed
  • Mark the level as In Progress to indicate the student has started working on it
  • Sign Off the Level when all manoeuvres are completed - this marks the level as complete and allows the student to download their certificate

Tips for Effective Assessment

  • Assess during lessons when the skills are fresh - use the Quick Notes feature to record observations, then update levels afterwards
  • Be consistent - use the same standard for all students at each level
  • Communicate progress - let students know which manoeuvres they have completed and what they need to work on
  • Use the notes field to add context about the student's performance

Integration with Lesson Notes

After recording a lesson note in Quick Notes, you will see a prompt to update the student's level. This makes it easy to keep assessments up to date as part of your normal workflow.

Certificates

When you sign off a level, the student can download a PDF certificate from their Level Progress page. The certificate includes:

  • The student's name
  • The level achieved
  • The date of completion
  • Your school's name
