CSIA Alpine Level 3

CSIA's professional progression after Level 2 brings further skier and teacher development together with examinations of skiing and teaching performance.

What This Qualification Covers

  • The completed Level 3 award requires both the skiing and teaching components; a partial result is not the full certification.
  • CSIA's Trainer designation is a separate outcome. A Level 3 certificate alone should not be used to claim that designation or a Course Conductor appointment.
  • Teacher Development focuses on advanced skiers, including practice teaching on black terrain and in challenging snow. Skiing development includes blue and black groomed and off-piste terrain. These are training and assessment contexts, with local terrain and guiding conditions checked separately.

Training and Progression

  • The full route follows Level 2 with three-day Skier Development and three-day Teacher Development courses plus exams covering skiing and teaching. CSIA also permits progression in individual tracks; full Level 2 is required before the Level 3 Teaching Exam.
  • The separate Trainer designation develops skills used to train new ski instructors. Complete Level 3 plus the Trainer designation are the published prerequisites for the Level 4 pathway.
