Snowboarding · British Association of Snowsport Instructors
What This Qualification Covers
- BASI's current qualification description covers developing learners from beginners to advanced and mentoring aspiring Level 1 and 2 instructors. Mentoring does not itself demonstrate an Alpine qualification or a current BASI trainer or examiner appointment.
- The teaching course focuses on recognising learner needs, adapting strategies, communicating, and planning meaningful progressions. The separate technical course develops riding fundamentals and performance analysis across varied terrain beyond the Central Theme.
- Technical-course avalanche equipment and possible off-piste activity describe training conditions. They do not establish unrestricted guiding authority or permission for a particular destination. Check the complete award and any actually issued ISIA credential and current licence separately.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- Both the teaching and technical courses require BASI Snowboard Level 2. The teaching specification identifies 200 logged teaching hours as part of the Level 3 ISIA pathway, ideally gained after Level 2 in a mountain environment; confirm the current completion record with BASI.
- The public pathway also requires a second snowsport through a Level 1 award in another discipline. These course descriptions are not an exhaustive whole-qualification checklist: verify all supporting requirements and the completed Level 3 award, rather than one component pass.
- BASI's current qualification list also records Snowboard Level 4 ISTD, supported by separate teaching and technical course specifications. The snowboard route should not be assumed to end at Level 3 or to share every Alpine Level 4 requirement.
Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
