What This Qualification Covers
- Assessment covers safe line choice, control and adaptability across in-bounds freeride terrain and snow conditions. Teaching assessment prioritises group management, terrain choice and suitable skill progressions.
- The course includes observation, video analysis, natural terrain features and introductory airs. Its express in-bounds context does not establish backcountry guiding or unrestricted avalanche-terrain authority.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- The two-day course requires associate or full membership, NZSIA Ski Level 2 or an accepted foreign equivalent, and experience on black off-piste terrain and natural features.
- The current page directs candidates to complete Freeski Level 1 e-learning before this Freeride course. Confirm the required online module directly with NZSIA, as the two specialist awards have different names.
