NZSIA Ski Trainer Certification

NZSIA's separate Ski Trainer Certification develops fully certified Level 3 ski instructors' ability to lead training, analyse skiing and help other instructors learn to teach.

What This Qualification Covers

  • The qualification assesses clinic leading, technical knowledge, skier analysis, teaching instructors how to teach, trainer-level demonstrations and personal skiing.
  • Skiing assessment spans introductory demonstrations through dynamic parallel and short turns, with on-piste, off-piste and varied all-mountain tasks. Training presentations and coaching assess the ability to develop other instructors.
  • This is a separate qualification after Ski Level 3, rather than a fourth numbered instructor level. Holding it does not by itself establish a current examiner or NZSIA staff appointment.

FASS country rules

These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.

No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.

Training and Progression

  • Candidates must hold full NZSIA Ski Level 3 certification and associate or full NZSIA membership. Workshop entry also requires two eligible supporting qualifications and current Level 1, 2 and 3 e-learning; only one second-discipline award can count towards those two qualifications.
  • The published process comprises a four-day workshop and three-day assessment. Check the official list of eligible children's, freeski, freeride, race and second-discipline awards before planning the route.

Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.
