Alpine skiing · Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors
What This Qualification Covers
- The September 2026 national standard describes FS 3 teaching through the advanced zone, on advanced black terrain and all terrain-park features. The national overview describes the feature range as extra-small to large; appropriate feature selection remains part of assessment and lesson decisions.
- This guide covers the ski strand of the shared PSIA-AASI assessment-based certificate. Its discipline-specific technical evidence must be checked; the shared programme does not automatically establish snowboard or Telemark performance.
- The specialist certificate is separate from the main Alpine Level III award and from an instructor-trainer, examiner or education-staff appointment.
- The national award does not establish a professional licence, immigration permission or permission to operate independently in another country.
FASS country rules
These are the active qualification conditions configured on FASS. They do not confirm that a person has met them or has permission to teach. Local professional and immigration requirements still apply.
No active FASS rule is recorded for these qualifications. This does not establish permission to teach or lack of recognition.
Training and Progression
- The September 2026 standards list current PSIA-AASI Level II or equivalent with performance at that certification level, or successful FS 1 or FS 2, as FS 3 entry routes. Confirm the delivering region's interpretation and event prerequisites before booking.
- The full certificate requires the assessed people, teaching and technical learning outcomes. Training attendance or a partial technical or teaching pass is not the complete certificate.
- Check the delivering region's current entry, experience and assessment requirements. The standards assess people, teaching and technical skills together with professionalism; passing a preparation course or one assessment component is not the full certification. Current membership and continuing education are required to maintain certified status.
Check the awarding body's current syllabus for entry requirements, course dates, fees, and assessment rules.

Read the national freestyle overview and linked standards. The PDF is internally updated September 2026 despite its older filename. The overview and standard use different wording for teaching zones and feature ranges; this guide identifies the current standard and retains the distinction from the shared certificate's discipline-specific technical evidence.
