Venezuela is not a traditional skiing destination. While it was once possible to ski on the glaciers of the Sierra Nevada de Mérida, climate change has led to their disappearance. The country's last glacier was declared an ice field in May 2024, ending the era of skiing in Venezuela.
Venezuela was home to the world's highest cable car, reaching Pico Espejo. The country is the first in modern history to lose all its glaciers. A single, now-defunct ski area, Pico Espejo, once existed.
