Castle Mountain

Castle Mountain is often described as the 'anti-resort' due to its extensive natural terrain. With 3,592 acres, 85% of which is ungroomed, it offers an experience closer to backcountry skiing than typical chairlift-served resorts. The resort receives an impressive 30 feet of annual snow, yet remains virtually unskied by crowds.

Castle Mountain is characterised by its vast, ungroomed terrain; 85% of the mountain is left in its natural state, making it ideal for those who prefer an authentic, wild ski experience. Intermediate skiers will find the 15% of groomed terrain well-suited for cruising. However, exploring the natural runs requires confidence in variable snow conditions. Skiers are advised to bring fat skis to best enjoy the powder.

Beginner options at Castle Mountain are very limited. There is a small groomed area available at the base, but overall, it is not considered a beginner's mountain.

Advanced skiing is where Castle Mountain truly excels, being the resort's primary purpose. Skiers can explore the challenging Haig Ridge area and other backcountry-style terrain. This includes steep chutes, cliff bands, and powder bowls, all conveniently served by a chairlift.

There is no base village at Castle Mountain. The nearest accommodation options are located in Pincher Creek, approximately a 30-minute drive away.

Castle Mountain boasts an impressive annual snowfall, receiving 30 feet of snow. This is notably more than most other resorts in the Rockies.
