About Serre Chevalier Ski School
Independent ski instructor offering private ski lessons, snowboarding, splitboarding, ski touring and freeride in Serre Chevalier, Le Monêtier-les-Bains. Bilingual English and French.
William Bankes arrived in the Hautes-Alpes at the age of 7. A state-qualified D.E Alpine Ski instructor, he is an independent instructor affiliated with ESI (International Ski School). Having lived in the Southern Alps for over 25 years, William is a former member of the French national snowboard team, competing on the World Cup circuit. He has been a ski instructor for over 10 years and created Serre Chevalier Ski School to share his experience.
Whether you are a beginner or expert, from 3 to 99 years old, William teaches all ages and abilities. Come perfect your technique or learn new skills on the magnificent ski domain of Serre Chevalier in the Hautes-Alpes — from green to black pistes, and also off-piste.
Discover the Serre Chevalier ski area with its exceptional snow conditions and blue skies. Half-day and full-day engagements available on-piste or off-piste freeride, with guidance to the best terrain, restaurants, and backcountry spots. Technical advice on avalanche safety equipment is also provided.
For those seeking adventure away from the ski lifts and closer to nature, day trips or multi-day ski touring and splitboard excursions are available — including overnight stays in mountain refuges for the more adventurous.
Operating in the Serre Chevalier valley (Villeneuve, Monêtier-les-Bains). Also able to connect you with partners for Nordic skiing, snow kiting at Col du Lautaret, snowshoeing in the Parc National des Écrins, and sledging at Col d'Izoard.

A multi-day introductory ski touring course over 3 days. Take the time to learn at your own pace with an expert guide in the potential of the Hautes-Alpes. With two nights in a refuge at the heart of the mountains.
Season Discovery of Splitboarding
For anyone from the Serre Chevalier valley, a special 6-day program within the season to discover splitboarding, splitboard and avalanche ski is included. Come and discover what our area has to offer.
Avalanche Safety Training
As a trainer for the Anena (French national avalanche study program), avalanche safety courses are offered. Providing vital information on how to act in snowy terrain and in avalanche situations.
Day Freeriding in La Grave
A day out in the La Grave ski resort, famous for ungroomed glaciers. A lunch break at the restaurant at 3200m or in the Chancel refuge. Food and drinks are not included. Transfer from Monêtier-les-Bains is included. Avalanche safety kit is included (backpack, avalanche beacon, shovel and probe).
